McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man was killed when his van collided with a freight train near U.S. 69 in Pittsburg County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident occurred about 2:20 p.m. Monday south of McAlester.
The patrol says the man, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was driving east on a gravel road and tried to cross the railroad tracks when his vehicle was struck by the train.
The man sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
