Tulsa Co. Jail Inmate Attempts Suicide In His Cell

TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa County jail inmate who attempted suicide Thursday morning is now in a Tulsa hospital. 

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says Charles Lee Jernegan, 32, apparently attempted suicide while he was alone in his cell. 

Jail detention officers conducting routine cell checks found Jernegan and administered CPR until EMSA and Tulsa Fire arrived at the jail.  

The jail says a pulse was detected and Jernegan was taken to the hospital. 

Tulsa Co. Sheriff's Office Captain John Bowman says the inmate attempted suicide by tying a sheet around his bunk and then around his neck.  

Jernegan had been arrested on July 27th for two felony warrants; failure to appear in court and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
