Tulsa City Council Seats Up For Vote September 8

TULSA, OK - In addition to the hotly contested Tulsa Mayor election, five city council seats are on the ballot Tuesday, September 8. The other top city office on the ballot is for the Republican candidate who will face Democrat Phil Wood in the race for City Auditor.

Tulsa has had the Mayor-City Council form of government since 1989.  The Tulsa City Council acts as the City's legislative body. Council members work to pass local laws, review and approve the City's annual budget, monitor City operations, conduct investigations, and listen to concerns and suggestions from the residents of their districts.  All City Councilors have offices on the second floor of City Hall.

Because there are only Republicans running in three District races, whoever wins Tuesday night will be the overall winner - there is no need for a primary. So voters in District 2 will elect either Rick Westcott or Barton Rhoades Tuesday. In District 5, either Christopher Trail or incumbent William Martinson, Jr. will be elected to office when the polls close.

Also in District 8, one of three Republicans: incumbent William Christiansen, Scott Grizzle or Phillip Lakin will win the council seat.

The election is a true primary for Districts 4 and 6.

Registered Republicans in District 4 have a choice between former Councilor Maria Barnes and Elizabeth Wright. Democratic voters will decide between Rocky Frisco and incumbent Jason Gomez.

District 6 Democrats will decide between Mario Choice and incumbent Dennis Troyer while Republican candidates Tadd Weese and James Mautino will be on the primary ballot Tuesday.

Republicans in the running for the City Auditor position are Preston Doerflinger and Lynn Ruemler.
