TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa church celebrated a major milestone Sunday. The First Baptist Church of North Tulsa turned 110-years-old this weekend.

The church was founded in 1899 and its congregation met in a small one-room house. Throughout the years, the church moved and grew until it was burned down in the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot.

But, church members rebuilt and then finally moved to their current home at 1414 North Greenwood in 1953.

Now more than 500 members strong, the First Baptist Church of North Tulsa says it has been a long, rewarding road.

"It's really a testament to scripture that we've stood this long, stood the test of time and been the light on the hill that the lord has called us to be," said Pastor Anthony Scott, First Baptist Church of North Tulsa.

The First Baptist Church of North Tulsa has also seen its share of historical guests, including a visit by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who spoke there in the early 60s.
