TULSA, OK -- Wednesday is the day many folks are taking to the roads and air and despite the recession more people are expected to travel by land and air this year compared to last.

More than 33 million car trips are expected this Thanksgiving according to AAA.  That's up two percent from last year.

Cost and convenience are the number one reason to drive, but we also found those who are still willing to fly this holiday.

From Houston, Las Vegas to Columbus, Ohio, one thing is for sure, holiday travel can be one giant headache, but some people are heading out early hoping to bypass the big rush.

"Two years we flew out the day before Thanksgiving and it was a bit crazy out of Los Angeles.  Flying we had no problems at all.  It was really nice actually flying into Tulsa," said Lesley Edwards.

Procrastination could also mean a big hit to your wallet.  Sean Mullin says price definitely factored into his decision.

"When I was online and checking the prices the prices for tomorrow were considerably more expensive than they were for today as the day before Thanksgiving so I tried to leave a day earlier," said Sean Mullin.

And he's not alone; the Edwards family saved $400 just by changing their travel days.  Sounds like a plan, but did any of them have a plan for H1N1?  After all with fewer flights planes will be fuller.

"Nah, I'll just hold my breath.  No I'm not worried," Fred Urban said.

"It's not a small thing in my mind, but what do you do.  This is the world we live in and so you deal with it," said Juana Nelson.

Before you fly though check the airport and your airline for any delays.  For those driving, map out your game plan before you hit the road.
