OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police found a baby safe and sound after the car he was in was carjacked Wednesday evening.
"We think we are safe in our own home, and it's OK for us to just run inside and leave our kids in the car. Unfortunately it's dangerous everywhere we are," said Captain Dee Patty.
The 11-month-old's father Peter Breninger said his wife only took her eyes off the car for a second.
"She forgot the diaper bag. The diaper bag was just by the front door. She went right to the front door," Breninger said.
When his wife looked up, she saw her green Blazer taking off with a man behind the wheel.
Oklahoma City police found the vehicle abandoned just a few blocks away from the Breninger home.
"We're very lucky that it ended very quickly and with the child completely safe," Patty said.
Police took a couple people in for questioning, but said they do not have anyone in custody. They said whoever is responsible will likely face car theft and kidnapping charges.
