2 Earthquakes Strike in Southeast Oklahoma

Two earthquakes in southeastern Oklahoma were recorded late Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

TUPELO, Oklahoma -- Two earthquakes were recorded in southeastern Oklahoma in the past day.

A 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday night near the town of Tupelo in Coal County in southeastern Oklahoma. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the Tupelo quake about 7:50 p.m. six miles north of Tupelo.

That quake was followed by another earthquake with a 3.2 magnitude near Allen in Hughes County Thursday at 8:33 a.m. Allen is located north of Tupelo.

No injuries or damage were reported in either quake.

Researchers say quakes of 2.5 to 3.0 magnitude quakes are typically the smallest felt by humans.
