Tulsa Police Look For Driver In Fatal Hit And Run Crash

TULSA, OK -- A 41-year-old woman is dead following a hit and run crash at 6th and Peoria in Tulsa early Friday morning.

Tulsa Police say the woman was westbound on 6th Street waiting to turn left onto Peoria, when a Chevy Blazer hit her car from the side at 2:17 a.m.

Police say the woman was part of a caravan of cars driven by her friends.

The woman's car was hit in the driver's side door by a northbound Chevy Blazer that officers say ran the red light.

The crash spun her car around and pinned her inside. The Tulsa Fire Department freed her from the wreck and EMSA rushed her to a Tulsa hospital, where police say she died.

"After the collision first happened, both vehicles spun around and came to rest. When the SUV came to rest witnesses stated that individual got out, looked around and kind of saw what happened and got back into his vehicle and attempted to actually drive away," said Tulsa Police Corporal August Terbrock.

Tulsa Police say the driver of the Chevy Blazer then ran away.

Police say the driver of the SUV was not the owner. They say the owner had been booked into the Tulsa County jail earlier Friday morning.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a man who is 25 to 35-years-old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11, very short hair or bald, and had a beard. 

The name of the woman has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
