TULSA, OK -- A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a beating death early Saturday morning.

An EMSA unit was flagged down near the 1200 block of South Rockford just before 4 a.m., according to Sergeant Quentin Houck of the Tulsa Police Department. Medical personnel found the body of a man lying in the street and called in police officers.

"The two parties had a disturbance, and that's all we know at this point," Houck said.

When officers arrived, a suspect was taken into custody. Cody Lee Poleszak, 22, told police "I did not mean to kill him," according to an arrest report.

Poleszak told detectives that the victim knocked on his door then struck him in the face after the door was opened. He also said the man hit him and "stomped his face" into the ground.

Poleszak was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a charge of first-degree homicide.

Police obtained a search warrant and examined the apartment to collect evidence in the case.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
