Tulsa Police: Monthly Homicide Rate Increases By 250 Percent

TULSA, OK -- Tulsa homicide rates for a one-month period show a 250 percent increase, according to stats released Wednesday by the Tulsa Police Department.

From May 17 to June 13, there were seven homicides in Tulsa compared to two for the prior month's reporting period.

There has been a 6 percent decrease overall in what law enforcement terms "Part 1" crimes: homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft. Tulsa police officers filed 1,771 reports in these crimes in mid-May to mid-June, compared to 1,880 reports in the month before.

Aggravated Assault increased 17 percent, from 183 to 215 incidents. The increase is mostly because of a significant jump in firearm-related aggravated assaults which increased 50 percent (from 60 to 90 incidents).

There was a 9 percent decrease in residential daytime burglary, from 224 incidents to 203. Citywide traffic collisions dipped by 10 percent, according to the CompStat Summary news release. There was a 7 percent drop in injury collisions, from 352 to 327.
