MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – Midwest City police arrested a 19-year-old on felony assault charges for striking his roommate in the chest with a butcher knife and hitting the roommate over the head.
Investigators received a phone call Saturday from Jonathan Siders, 19, and convinced him to come to the police station for an interview.
Siders admitted to beating and throwing a butcher knife at his roommate, 28-year-old Arjuna Whitehead, inside their home on E. Coe Drive. However, Siders claimed it was in self-defense.
"The evidence at the scene and testimony of several witnesses indicate otherwise to a claim of self defense," said Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes in a press release.
Police said the incident began when Siders demanded Whitehead return a play station game console and jewelry.
Siders was arrested for two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and is currently being held in the Midwest City Police Department jail pending transfer to the Oklahoma County Jail. His bond is set at $35,000.
Whitehead is still recovering from his injuries and been released from the hospital.
