FLORENCE, Arizona -- A Bartlesville man and University of Oklahoma fan was executed by the state of Arizona Tuesday night.
Jeffrey Landrigan, 48, was executed at a prison in Florence, Arizona, after the U.S. Supreme Court lifted a stay preventing his execution for a murder committed in 1989.
Landrigan was given a lethal injection after a last meal of steak, fried okra, french fries, ice cream and Dr. Pepper.
Landrigan had been on death row since his 1990 conviction for murdering a Phoenix man in a 1989 killing that prosecutors said was part of a robbery.
Landrigan had earlier escaped from the John Lilley Correctional Center in Boley, Oklahoma where he was serving a 20-year sentence for second-degree murder out of Washington County.
That murder occurred in 1982.
A prison official said Landrigan's last words were, "Well, I'd like to say thank you to my family for being here, and all of my friends. Boomer Sooner."
