TULSA, Oklahoma -- Students from around Oklahoma joined the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in supporting the Dream Act, a plan that would give people with no criminal record a path to citizenship through college or the military.
At a news conference Friday, they pointed out why it would be good for our country and our state.
They said allowing children of illegal immigrants a chance to become legal will be a big boost to the economy. They also said it won't have any negative impact on American workers.
"This legislation is especially important to address the many situations in which immigrant children become victims in a very complex, outdated, inhumane immigration system," said Kasey Hugheart, Dream Act OK President.
Opponents of the Dream Act say it simply rewards illegal behavior and even encourages it.
