TULSA, Oklahoma – December sales tax collections for the City of Tulsa were up nearly two percent from the same period last year, city officials said Wednesday.

The actual sales tax received, as reported by the Oklahoma Tax Commission, was $16,076,947, compared to $15,794,465 during the same period last year. That's an increase of 1.8 percent, or $282,482.

Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett remained optimistic, but cautious.

"We are grateful to see these small increases in the past couple of months, but we must continue to find ways to economize and to use our money wisely," the Mayor said. "The collection period reflected here was before Black Friday and before the Christmas shopping season really got rolling. We hope local merchants are having a good Christmas season and that we see another increase next month."

Sales tax collections for the year totaled $99,061,867, two percent above the same period last year.
