TULSA, Oklahoma -- A west Tulsa home was destroyed in a fire Tuesday morning.

Tulsa fire crews were called out by neighbors to the 500 block of south 47th West Avenue around 9:20 a.m.

District Tulsa Fire Chief Eddie Bell says when crews arrived on scene the home was more than 60 percent involved.

The vacant home was locked but crews were able to get in and knock the blaze down pretty quickly. The home is considered a total loss.

Bell said the cold weather made it difficult for his crews.

Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Bell says they see a lot of fires in the winter from heating sources.

He said people need to be aware of the danger small space heaters pose.

"Keeping [space heaters] away from combustibles is really important this time of year," Bell said.

Investigators are on scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
