TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa police are investigating a homicide at a home near 61st & Memorial.
Officers were called to the 5800 block of South 87th East Avenue around 3:40 Saturday morning where they found a man shot in his driveway. Jerry Lee VanEllen suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tulsa police say two men entered the house through a side garage door looking for things to steal. The suspects pointed a gun at the victim's brother and demanded money. VanEllen and his wife then came into the living room of the residence and were confronted by the suspects. VanEllen chased the suspects outside and one of the suspects fired two shots at him.
The first suspect is described as a black male, 6'0" to 6'3", thin build, wearing a black hoodie, black pants and dark bandana over his face. He was armed with a revolver
The second suspect was is a black male, 5'4-5'7", thin build, also wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a dark bandana over his face. He was armed with a knife.
The suspects escaped with two cell phones and iPod and a laptop in the first degree burglary and homicide.
Police believe the house was selected randomly and are investigating to see if the crime is connected to any others in the area.
