Tulsans Honor Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Legacy With Parade

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Several thousand people braved chilly temperatures as they lined the route of this year's Martin Luther King, Jr. parade in Tulsa.

"It means peace throughout our country for all men. Equality for everyone. It's just a great day to celebrate," said parade goer Chrystal Morgan. 

The annual event got underway at 11 a.m. Monday. Thousands lined Tulsa's downtown streets for the parade that wound through downtown's historic Greenwood district.

Thousands who believe in Doctor King's dream, and his vision of hope.

"He wasn't in our lives but we still feel him through the gravevine," said parade goer Talon Rentin.

As King's words boomed over the loudspeakers, schools, bands, and civic groups marched through the streets. News On 6's Ashli Sims and Jamie McGriff were also in the line-up.

Monday is the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The fallen civil rights leader would have turned 82 on Saturday. He was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.
