Tracking A Few Systems

Posted: Updated:

The Thursday snow event is history.  The official snow total for Tulsa will go down as 2 inches, with Owasso at 3 and Pawhuska at 5 inches.  Areas south of I-40 received very little snowfall but the freezing rain and drizzle resulted in numerous travel headaches yesterday across the southern third of the state, with hazardous driving also across the north.  Temperatures this morning are very cold and some roadways will be problematic.  Use caution this morning.

I am tracking a storm system in Kansas this morning. Its moving southeast and may produce some light snow flurries or snow showers across northern OK and southern Kansas today.  But the model data indicates the system will weaken and mainly impact the areas north and northeast of the state.  I will track the system closely and we may be adding a few snow showers if the system turns more to the south.

Temperatures will move into the lower 30s by this afternoon with increasing clouds  South wind will return at 10 mph.

A weak wind shift will be likely tomorrow with a fast moving frontal intrusion before winds return from the south Saturday evening in advance of the next system to impact the area.

Model data is not quite as bullish on precipitation chances for Sunday compared to the past several runs, but we'll keep a 30% chance of drizzle or light snow Sunday. This will not be a major system.   Highs Sunday will be in the mid to upper 30s with south winds shifting to the north by midday.

The rest of the extended period will be under the influence of northwest flow aloft which means a few more disturbances may be possible Tuesday night, and Thursday morning.  At this point, we'll keep the forecast cold with a few flurries possible Tuesday evening and Thursday morning.
