KEYS, Oklahoma -- A fiber optic line cut north of the community of Keys in Cherokee County disrupted telephone service in both Keys and Cookson areas for several hours Wednesday.

The Cherokee County Emergency Operations Center in Tahlequah said the AT&T fiber line was cut Wednesday morning and it took crews several hours to make repairs and restore service.

Officials say land line and cell phone service to roughly 15,000 to 18,000 customers were impacted in both the communities.

Keys Fire Chief Yogi Cole said volunteer firefighters manned the Keys and Cookson Fire stations to assist residents in case of any emergencies.

Cole says AT&T crews were immediately called following the cut.
