EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl announced this week that former American Idol finalist David Archuleta will perform at halftime of this year’s game between OU and Stanford.
Archuleta will turn 19 years old three days before the game, but has already had a successful young career. He was the runner up to David Cook in the seventh season of American Idol that ended in 2008.
Archuleta’s self-titled album debuted at No. 2 of the Billboard 200, and his first single, “Crush,” was one of the most successful singles of an American Idol contestant. As of June 2009, the album had sold more than 900,000 copies worldwide.
The Sun Bowl halftime show will also feature performances by Oklahoma’s and Stanford’s marching bands. The game, which will be played at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
