RUSTON, Louisiana – Louisiana Tech officially named Arizona offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes its new head coach Wednesday, selecting Dykes over candidates that included Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.
Dykes is the son of former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes and will replace Derek Dooley, who left the school last week to replace Lane Kiffin at Tennessee.
Wilson is still a candidate to fill the coaching vacancy at East Carolina. Former Pirates’ coach Skip Holtz left the school last week to replace Jim Leavitt at South Florida.
Footballcoachscoop.com sited sources saying that Wilson is traveling Wednesday to interview for East Carolina’s position. The same Web site lists former Texas Tech defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil and current Bowling Green head coach Dave Clawson as candidates.
