OMAHA, Nebraska -- It took two days, but Clemson University held off a University of Oklahoma comeback attempt, beating the Sooners 6-4 in the College World Series.

The game, which started Tuesday night, was completed Wednesday after a weather delayed the contest in the top of the sixth inning.

With weather looking poor throughout the night, umpires met with both managers and decided to suspend play with Clemson holding a 6-1 lead.

OU's Cody Reine generated the game's first run, singling to third base, then stealing second and scoring on a Caleb Bushyhead single.

But the Tigers (45-23) answered back in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs. Three straight walks by Bobby Shore loaded the bases and he was unable to recover, charged with four runs before his day was done.

A costly error by left fielder Max White allowed two more runs to score in the bottom of the fifth, just before the game's delay.

When play resumed Wednesday, Oklahoma (50-17) mounted its comeback attempt.

Cameron Seitzer led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run, cutting the gap to 6-2.

The following inning, Tyler Ogle launched a solo home run of his own, then followed that up with an RBI double in the ninth to make it 6-4.

But despite the late effort and the strong relief pitching of J.R. Robinson and Jeremy Erben - one hit combined over four innings pitched on Wednesday - the Sooners fell short.

Oklahoma will play South Carolina on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT, with the winner advancing to play Clemson. The winner of OU-South Carolina would have to then beat Clemson twice in order to advance.
