TULSA, Oklahoma—The University of Tulsa may have to wait a little bit longer to name a new head coach as early reports Friday say Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has withdrawn his name as a candidate for the position in Tulsa.

“I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for the head coach position at Tulsa,” McGee said in a statement released by the University of Arkansas. “My goal is to one day be a head coach and there are a number of considerations that factor into when that time will come.”

“I appreciate the opportunity Tulsa gave me to meet about their program and wish them the best of luck in their search. I look forward to continuing to work with Coach Petrino towards our goal of winning championships,” said McGee.

McGee’s withdraw comes just one day after multiple sources reported he had already been offered the Tulsa head coaching position. Thursday InsideTulsaSports.com said reported McGee had already, or was close-to accepting the offer and the announcement could be made in a press conference as early as Friday.

Before reports of McGee’s consideration for the position, rumors swirled about Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter being one of the front-runners for the head coaching job.

The former OU quarterback and Booker T. Washington graduate spent one year as the offensive coordinator and three as the quarterbacks coach for the Razorbacks. In his one season calling plays at Arkansas, the team ranked ninth in the nation averaging 482.54 per contest.
