What a day in the sports world. The World Cup, Game 7 of the NBA Finals and the First Round of the US Open. Or the personal preference of order: the First Day of the US Open, Game 7 of the NBA Finals and the World Cup.

And of course.more conference realignment.

How do you beat the US Open?  It’s Pebble Beach with perfect weather. It’s the even-numbered 2010 and an even ten years since Tiger officially became King Kong of the sports world with the most dominant performance in golf history. Phil in the morning, down-but-not-out Woods in the evening. If you are an Open-loving masochist who loves to see pros struggle, it was really special.  For the first time ever, neither Tiger nor Lefty made a birdie.

But how do you beat Game 7 at Staples?  Purple and gold against Celtic green. Boston/LA. LA/Boston. Kobe and Pierce. Doc Rivers not backing down to the Zen Master.  Worst thing is deciding which is nastierthe in-your-face defense or a Rondo free throw?  Personally, the best thing about it is not caring who wins? Hard to beat, although the Thunder in the 2012 Finals would do it.

Then there’s the World Cup. Wake me when someone scores.  Or when the horns stop. I’m nilled out

Actually, today was a good day with Realignment 2010. The blogosphere thinned out with hundreds of weak or wannabe journalists finally going to their corners after unprofessionally slinging out rumors, hyperbole or flat out lies for the past three weeks. Today’s headliners being that Utah is officially in with the Pac-10 (and impotent Colorado),   politicos in Texas wanting Houston in the Big 12 (never happen), and former OU Associate AD and current Arkansas AD Jeff Long saying his Hogs are committed to the SEC (for now, but if the Big 12 money is really there, the Hogs would crawl out of SEC country for a lighter schedule and the chance to get back into the state of Texas in recruiting.)

All in a day’s work.
