WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A 9-year-old Tulsa girl and a teenager from Ardmore are Washington, D.C., to participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Children's Congress 2011.

While there, Tessa Bell and Cooper Little will be talking to members of Congress about the challenges of living with type 1 diabetes.

The event is led by JDRF's International Chairman Mary Tyler Moore.

In all, 150 children between the ages 4 to 17 are taking part in the event.

Tessa was diagnosed at age three and she says she is still learning about her diabetes. She has an insulin pump, which makes her life easier.

Cooper is taking active steps to fight diabetes. He won first place at the State Fair of Oklahoma for his science project about the effects of exercise on blood sugar
