Heat Warnings Remain

Posted: Updated:

Another very hot afternoon is expected with highs moving into the upper 90s to near 104. The Tulsa metro should top out near 103 today with south winds around 10 to 15 mph with mostly sunny conditions.  Excessive heat warnings remain for portions of northern OK through at least Friday and may be extended into the weekend.  Morning lows will only drop into the lower 80s with afternoon highs from 99 to 104.  The heat index will be from 104 to near 110 in some locations.

Sunday morning the tail end of a short wave moving across the northern plains will brush the northern edge of the ridge and could provide a small cluster of storms across southern Kansas.  A few of these may clip the far northern OK locations early Sunday morning but the probability remains very low.

This is something we'll be watching and we may add a slight pop in the forecast in subsequent updates.

The model data indicates the mid level ridge may slide eastward early next week allowing another period of northwest flow aloft.  This could allow for a few storm complexes to approach the area next week, or this may also allow a few widely scattered or isolated storms across the extreme eastern OK and western Arkansas vicinity from 3pm to sunset Monday through Thursday of next week. We're too far out to make any big changes at this point, but the temperatures may drop a few degrees if the data is correct.  Eventually the ridge will stay in place but we still may see some retrograding in early July before it becomes stationary for a few weeks.
