Dealing With the Drought In Rural Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The majority of the state of Oklahoma remains under a drought.  One-third of Oklahoma counties are in an exceptional drought and its hurting production of wheat.

According to our agriculture expert Ron Hays with the Oklahoma Farm Report, hardly any wheat was produced in southwestern Oklahoma this year. That could trickle down to the grocery stores and your wallet.

"I think there could be some impact, there's a lot of other components besides just the price of wheat in flour and bread. That is a big component so we could see somewhat a higher price for that," said Ron Hays.

Experts have been called to Austin, Texas this week for an emergency conference to discuss the drought and what the long-term impacts will be to Oklahoma and the rest of the country.
