TULSA, Oklahoma -- Some of the animals relinquished by a Latimer County couple after a raid of the Cajun Country Ranch and Animal Rescue will be up for adoption soon in Tulsa.

The Latimer County Sheriff's office seized nearly 80 animals from the 15-acre Cajun Country Ranch, saying they were severely malnourished and neglected.

The owners, Anne and Shane Duhon, were arrested for animal cruelty.

The Tulsa SPCA is asking for help to accommodate the 24 dogs, five cats, two horses and one duck that were taken to them for immediate medical attention.

"A lot of these dogs came in with such bad worms that their stool was bloody," Lori Hall, with the Tulsa SPCA, said.

Hall said the animals have been diagnosed with severe malnutrition, dehydration, flea infestation, intestinal worms, and coccidia.

"They were just skin and bones. You can still see the backbone on this one. He's still underweight," she said.

All they need is a new home, which will also allow the agency to make room for the dogs still at the Wilburton property that couldn't be caught.

"They've been through a lot and they deserve a home," Hall said. "They are very sweet dogs, very good temperaments and they just deserve to be in a home."

Tulsa SPCA said it has spent several thousand dollars on food and medical care for the seized dogs and that amount doesn't include the housing cost.

The SPCA needs the following help:

  • Foster parents
  • Exercise pens
  • Water pails
  • Kuranda Beds (go to Tulsaspca.org to order)
  • Money for medical supplies

They need to have additional foster parents as soon as possible, Hill said.

The group will have a special adopt-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 2910 Mohawk Boulevard.
