EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Jack Hatzfeld’s traveling days are over, at least for a few months anyway. In the last couple of months the 12-year-old quarterback has taken two trips to Texas and most recently Santa Barbara, California for Steve Clarkson’s Dream Maker Tour. The tour tries to find the best quarterbacks in the nation, similar to American Idol’s search for the next big voice.

Jack didn’t disappoint on the west coast.

“I thought I did very good,” Hatzfeld said.

Hatzfeld competed against some of the best quarterbacks in his age group and finished in the top three. Hatzfeld had plenty of highlights during his stay in California, but his practice time with current Ohio State QuarterbackTerrelle Pryor was near the top of his list.

“He’s huge. I was star-struck. It was just a great opportunity,” Hatzfeld said.

Hatzfeld’s top-three status earned him an invitation to compete in Clarkson’s “Super 7” in Maui in early July. The Hatzfeld family has decided to decline the invitation due to traveling costs. Jack’s father suspects his son will find his way to Maui soon enough.

“I’ve been told by the Steve Clarkson organization, without a doubt, with what they’ve seen he will be top seven in high school,” David Hatzfeld said.

The Edmond quarterback will continue to train this summer under the direction of a former coach. Football will not dominate the summer though, a trip to the lake is also on the agenda this summer for Jack and his family.
