STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- After coming up short a season ago, the Douglass Trojans topped the Wagoner Bulldogs 20-13 in overtime to claim the Class 4A Gold Ball.

On their first possession of overtime the Trojans were down to a 3rd and goal. Donnell Ward – who had two interceptions for the Douglass defense – threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to receiver Donnell Ward to take a 20-13 lead.

The Trojans’ defense, which came up big on several occasions throughout the game – came up with yet another big play to claim the championship for Douglass.

Linebacker Eric King intercepted the Wagoner pass in the end zone to end the game and secure the win for Douglass.

Despite the exciting finish, the game started at a much slower pace.

The game remained scoreless through the first quarter, but Douglas running back Aliston Cobb broke a two big runs in the second and third quarters to give the Trojans an early lead.

With four minutes left in the first half, Cobb found a seam and took it 51 yards for a touchdown to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead.

The Trojans threatened again in the closing seconds of the first half, but Wagoner’s Beau Barton came up with the sack to end the half and the Douglass scoring threat to go into halftime trailing just one score.

On Douglass’ first drive of the second half, Cobb broke of yet another long run – this time a 57-yarder – for a touchdown to give the Trojans a 13-0 lead.

However, the Bulldogs’ offense – and star quarterback Prince McJunkins – came to life on their next drive.

The senior quarterback hooked up with receiver Jordan Robinson for a 41-yard touchdown bomb to cut the Douglass lead to 13-6. Four minutes later, McJunkins and Robinson hooked up for a score again, the second a 12-yard strike, to tie the game 13-13.

The Wagoner defense appeared to have yet another stop, but a punt bounced over the head of return man Jordan Robinson and he appeared to touch the ball and it continued and bounced into the end zone. Douglass’ Andrew Bailey recovered it into the end zone for an apparent Trojans’ touchdown. However, the referee ruled it as a Wagoner touchback because the ball crossed the plane before it was recovered.

Douglass’ bad luck continued on the ensuing drive. After holding the Bulldogs to a three-and-out, defensive end Johnny Jones ran into the Wagoner punter and giving the Bulldogs an automatic first down.

But the Trojans’ defense would make up for it.

Senior defensive back Donnell Ward intercepted McJunkins and returned it to the Bulldogs’ 25-yard line. Douglass set up a last-second field goal, but sophomore kicker Lorenzo Zuniga’s attempt was wide left to send the game to overtime.
