MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma—Muskogee High school will have a new head football coach next season in Josh Blankenship, who is the former offensive coordinator at Union.

Blankenship takes over at the helm replacing Matt Hennessy who was dismissed as head coach last month.

While at Union, Blankenship helped coach the Redskins to three consecutive state titles.

He played at the University of Tulsa from 199-2001 before he finished his college playing career at Eastern Washington in 2002.

He went on to play for the Miami Dolphins for a short time in 2003 before he returned to Union to be an assistant coach under his father Bill Blankenship from 2004-2005.

Coach Hennessy spent five seasons with Muskogee and went 5-6 in 2010 losing in the first round of playoffs to Union.

Hennesy was hired in 2003 as a defensive coordinator and assistant head coach under former head coach Ron Lancaster. Later in 2005, Hennesy took over as head coach for the Roughers.
