OKLAHOMA CITY -- A late-game push by the Washington Warriors lifted them to a 47-46 win over No. 2 Verdigris in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A State Playoffs.

Trailing 40-38 late in the game, the Warriors scored six unanswered points – including back to back from junior Cal Andrews – to take a 44-40 lead with less than two minutes to play.

Verdigris senior Austin Monroe answered with a three-pointer, his only points of the fourth quarter, to cut the lead back to one point.

After Washington’s Jesse Nixon hit a free throw to make it 45-43, the Cardinals’ Blake Battenfield converted on a three-point play to take a one-point advantage with just 14.4 seconds left on the clock.

The Warriors took possession with just 9.9 seconds left to play, and Nixon hit a layup with just 3.7 seconds left on the clock. Verdigris senior Jake Culver tried a last-second three-pointer, but it was too long.

Andrews led the effort for Washington with 16 points, six in the closing eight minutes of the game, while Nixon added 13 points, including the one that won it for the Warriors.

Culver scored a game-high 19 points, while senior Austin Monroe contributed 10 in the loss.

The Warriors will now take on the winner of Oklahoma Centennial and Hugo at 8 p.m. at Oklahoma City University.
