MOORE, OK - Gifted Oklahomans are showing off their skills, auditioning for Moore's Got Talent. But this competition isn't just for a chance at fame. Broadway Florist owner Scherry Johnson sees the contest as an opportunity to change the lives of Oklahoma children.

You see, each contestant pays a $25 entry fee. And every penny goes to the Food Bank's Food for Kids backpack program.

"I have a school that's two blocks from my flower shop that get a large amount of backpacks," Scherry Johnson said. "And when I saw that was happening, I couldn't not do anything. I had to do something to help.

She's talking about backpacks that are packed with healthy snacks from the Regional Food Bank. Thousands of Oklahoma grade school children take one home from school every Friday. The snacks tide them over until they go back to school on Monday.

"The more that participate in Moore's Got Talent, the more successful it will be," Johnson said. "And the more money we can give to the kids."

The first round Moore's Got Talent auditions runs through September 3rd at Boomerang Diner in downtown Moore. The finals are January. The top prize is $500. You don't have to live in Moore to participate. You can pick up an application at Broadway Florist in Moore. Now you don't have to have a talent to give to Food for Kids. You can make a donation by going to Food For Kids.
