Tulsa Water Treatment Switch Will Impact Fish Owners And Dialysis Providers

TULSA, Oklahoma -- The first of nine open houses concerning the city of Tulsa changing from chlorine to chloramines in the treatment of drinking water is Tuesday evening at the Whiteside Recreation Center gym.

The city says the open house is to help educate residents about the city's water system and why the switch in chemicals.

Officials say dialysis providers and fish owners are two groups that will be affected by the conversion to chloramines.

Tulsa is switching its secondary water disinfectant from chlorine to chloramines to meet stricter regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The transition will take place in November.

The open house Tuesday is from 6 to 9 p.m. at 4009 South Pittsburg Avenue. 

The new EPA regulations go into effect in 2012.
