TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Firefighters Association announced its endorsements for City Council candidates – and its plans for campaigning, despite a federal judge's ruling that backs Mayor Dewey Bartlett's executive order barring city employees from doing so.

"Short of putting campaign signs in front of fire houses and stickers on the fire engines, we will show our support in every way we can for the candidates who we believe are most committed to public safety and working families," said Dennis Moseby, president of the Tulsa Firefighters Association.

"The mayor has prohibited firefighters from campaigning in their free time, but we are not going to let that stop us from participating in the election process in a number of others ways."

The Firefighters Association backs the following candidates:

  • District 1 – Jack Henderson
  • District 2 – Jeannie Cue
  • District 3 – Roscoe Turner
  • District 4 – Maria Barnes
  • District 5 – Chris Trail
  • District 6 – Jim Mautino
  • District 7 – no endorsement
  • District 8 – George Gibbs
  • District 9 – G.T. Bynum

The organization also announced on Tuesday that retired Tulsa firefighters and firefighters from other departments, friends and families will campaign on behalf of the active Tulsa firefighters.
