Catoosa Dominates McLain At Homecoming

Posted: Updated:

Gerald Goodridge,

TULSA, Oklahoma -- It was Catoosa's homecoming, and the Indians weren't great hosts, dropping McLain 44-12 to start district play.

The Indians jumped out to an early lead thanks to a Catoosa miscue in the first quarter. The Titans muffed a punt led to a five-yard touchdown run by Cale Scheulen to take a 7-0 lead with six minutes left to play in the first quarter.

Chad Davis came up with an interception for McLain, setting up a 36-yard touchdown pass from Dimetri Walker to Kevin Smith. The extra point was blocked, leaving the Titans trailing 7-6 heading into the second quarter.

Catoosa increased its lead in the second quarter thanks to a four-yard touchdown run thanks to Levi Browning.

McLain answered back with a 31-yard touchdown run by Chris Gibson, but the PAT failed leaving the Titans down 14-12.

The Indians capped off a long drive with a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Austin Potter, but yet another failed PAT left Catoosa up 20-12 going into the locker room at halftime.

Coming out in the third quarter, McLain was driving in an attempt to tie the game, but Walker fumbled on the 10-yard line and was recovered and returned 90 yards by Derek Hughes to take a 27-12 lead.

That score would hold for the remainder of the quarter, and the Indians extended their lead with a 26-yard field goal six seconds into the fourth quarter to go up 30-12.

Schulen tacked on a pair of nine-yard touchdown runs in the fourth to put the Indians up 44-12 and put the game out of reach.

The Indians will now try to remain undefeated at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 against Mannford, while McLain will try to avoid losing back-to-back, hosting Oologah.
