Nearing 90 Today

Posted: Updated:

Another super morning is underway with readings in the mid 50s with clear sky and light wind.  We expect highs to move well above the seasonal average both today and tomorrow before a modest cool down arrives for Friday and the weekend.  Expect highs today in the upper 80s and lower 90s with a light southwest or west breeze.

A weak pre-frontal trough will bring north winds tomorrow morning.   A surface front will slide over the region Thursday afternoon bringing gusty north winds and an air mass change that will last through most of the weekend.  Temperatures Friday and Saturday will top out in the mid to upper 70s with morning lows in the lower 50s with a few upper 40s possible along the Ok-Kansas state line area.

The main upper level pattern will soon begin to change and this will allow for a more active time period next week for the central and southern plains.

A strong trough will develop across the Pacific Northwest and will bring several chances for showers and storms to the state despite most of the operational models keeping us dry.

Moisture from the Gulf will have a chance to move northward by Tuesday and Wednesday as the first piece of energy rotates around the base and lifts across the central plains.  This evacuating air aloft will cause convergence at the surface in the form of a Lee side low allowing for gusty south winds Monday and Tuesday.  This may be just enough to bring some higher dew points northward, but the quality of moisture may still be slim. This first wave will lift northeast early next week.

The main trough will move eastward by the middle of next week allowing for another chance of showers or storms by the end of next week.  Several days of southerly flow should add considerably better moisture to the region and this may allow for a higher rain and storm chance by late next week.  The exact timing is still up for grabs, but the pattern will support this trend.
