OXFORD, Mississippi -- Colorado Rockies pitcher, and former Tulsa Driller Drew Pomeranz was arrested early Friday morning, accused of disturbing the peace in Oxford, Miss.

Pomeranz was arrested by Oxford police at 1:25 a.m. and later released on a cash bond at 4:40 a.m. according to the Associated press.

The left-hander made his major league debut in September after being a part of the Ubaldo Jimenez trade. Pomeranz was 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts with the Rockies.

In response to the incident the Colorado Rockies released the following statement:

"The Rockies organization is aware of the unfortunate incident involving Drew Pomeranz that took place in Oxford, Mississippi. We have been in contact with Drew and his representatives and we will continue to gather more information. Both Drew and our organization understand the serious nature of the situation."

The Tennessee born pitcher played college ball for Ole Miss where he was an All-American. Pomeranz was drafted fifth overall in the 2010 MLB draft by the Cleveland Indians.

He is expected to be part of the Rockies' 2012 rotation.
