TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reopened the eastbound lanes of I-244 near Memorial Wednesday night, after a pedestrian died after being struck by multiple cars.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says an eastbound SUV struck the man as he crossed the 4-lane highway at Memorial from north to south.

The driver of the SUV had pulled over to the side of the road when a second vehicle struck the downed pedestrian.

Troopers say the second car spun around and hit the rear bumper of the parked SUV. Neither driver was injured.

Troopers say during that time, six other vehicles hit the downed pedestrian before traffic was halted.

"There are a few cars that weren't sure what happened. They left the scene, they have since called into our headquarters. We have their information and we're contacting them now," said Trooper Kyle Borden.

Troopers believe the victim is a man in his 50s but still don't know his name.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the man was homeless and was probably crossing the busy interstate to get to a camp at Admiral and Memorial.

Troopers say one of the drivers who hit the man ran away, and they later found a gun, a knife and drugs in his vehicle.

I-244 in that area was closed for about two hours while authorities cleared the scene.
