Counties in eastern Oklahoma continue to have the highest unemployment rates in the state.
The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported this week that Latimer County had the highest jobless rate in Oklahoma in September, 9.8 percent. The unemployment rate in LeFlore County was 9.1 percent and the jobless rate reached 9 percent in Okmulgee and Sequoyah counties in September.
In contrast, the commission's figures showed the unemployment rate in several western Oklahoma counties was below 3 percent.
Roger Mills County had the lowest rate with 2.4 percent, followed by 2.7 percent for Ellis County and 2.8 percent for Dewey County.
Oklahoma's unemployment rate increased to 5.9 percent in September.
