ROGERS COUNTY, Oklahoma -

A 20-year-old man killed in an overnight crash on State Highway 20 in Rogers County was a pitcher for the Rogers State University Hillcats and a graduate of Berryhill High School.

Tyler Jeffery Brown wrecked a 2011 Chevy Camaro on a curve near Keetonville Road.

Brown was westbound on Highway 20 at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday when his car failed to make the curve, struck a guardrail and then a boulder, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The Camaro rolled a quarter times, coming to rest on the driver's side. The car burst into flames not far from a house and a propane tank.

"We are deeply saddened by the news of Tyler's passing," said RSU Baseball Coach Ron Bradley.

"Tyler was a valuable part of our program, a hard worker, and a good teammate. His vibrant attitude and enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time."

The Berryhill, Oklahoma native was a big part of the Hillcats' run to the Sooner Athletic Conference championship in 2011. As a freshman he pitched in 14 games and recorded a 6-0 record on the mound.

In high school Brown excelled at both baseball and football leading both teams to state championships at Berryhill.

Local fire officials told The News On 6 they've responded to several wrecks at the curve over the years.

There was an odor of alcohol on the driver, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Jon Ysbrand. Ysbrand was not sure if Brown was wearing a seatbelt or not.

Cause of the collision is listed as unsafe speed on a curve.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized, but NewsOn6 will update as more details become available.
