A witness says she saw Archie Monroe setting a trash bin on fire and pushing it up against a dentist's office at 17th and South Peoria. Police say - that was just one of his crimes.

"I saw fire coming from my neighbor's house. I actually thought the house was on fire," said Mindy Prescott, vandalism victim.

Mindy Prescott lives near 17th and Owasso. Police say a witness saw a man set her neighbor's carport on fire. When Prescott stepped outside to see, she realized that wasn't the only damage on her block.

"All the cars had been damaged and there was a guy loose who was really on a spree," Prescott said.

Someone had vandalized six vehicles, including the Prescott's three cars. The front and rear windshields were broken and dirt had been poured on top.

"Just frustration and I couldn't sleep the rest of the night because I knew they were looking for him," she said.

Police later responded to a sexual battery at the Long John Silver's at 14th and Peoria. They found Archie Monroe fighting with the victim's father.

"He was combative with the officers and repeatedly spit on various officers at the scene," said Tulsa Officer Jennifer Moore.

Police had to put a cloth over Monroe's mouth to protect themselves. Eyewitnesses identified the homeless man as the suspect in the arsons and vandalisms.

"He's in the hospital and we're probably paying the bill for that and he cost a lot of people a lot of money, time and aggravation," Prescott said.

Prescott says her repair bill for the cars is at least $1500. She's just glad Monroe was caught.

"You can live in a nice neighborhood, it doesn't matter. You just have to be very careful," she said.

Officers say the dad of the sexual battery victim knocked out a couple of Monroe's teeth and possibly broke his jaw. He was treated, and then taken to jail on two counts of arson and six counts of malicious mischief.
