Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett has been recognized by a conservative policy think tank as an "Innovator in Action."
In a blog post for The Reason Foundation credits Bartlett with the pursuit of free market, competitive solutions to budget problems in government.
In the article, Bartlett says his secret is applying conservative business principles to city government.
"The secret of our success really is no secret. It takes applying conservative business and financial principles to government, the courage and political will to tackle the toughest of challenges, willingness to embrace innovation, competition and private market ideas. And, of utmost importance, having a management team who believes that, together, there is nothing that can stop Tulsa from being one of the best-managed cities in America."
Bartlett has been Tulsa's mayor since being elected to the post in 2009.
He is the president of the Keener Oil and Gas Company and chairman of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board.
He served on the Tulsa city council from 1990 to 1994.
