A 19-year-old Claremore man is in critical condition at Freeman Medical Center in Joplin after his all-terrain vehicle crashed into a tree in Delaware County.

Kyle Blaine Parnell suffered massive head and internal trunk injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The ATV was southbound on county road 530 at about 1:30a.m. when it ran off the west side of the road 3 miles south of Bernice, according to the Highway Patrol.

Alcohol and wet road conditions may have been contributing factors in the wreck, according to the trooper on the scene.

Kim Bauman, Parnell's aunt, says the trooper was mistaken and that her nephew had not been drinking before the accident.

She says the family is requesting prayers on Parnell's behalf.
