Sooner Women Top No. 14 Aggies

Oklahoma's Aaryn Ellenberg and Morgan Hook combined for 42 points to propel the Sooners to a 64-55 win over No. 14 Texas A&M Tuesday night in Norman.

Hook's 19 points and notable zero turnovers were a big turnaround from the last time OU faced the Aggies when she scored one point and tallied two turnovers.

The win for Oklahoma moves them to 18-9 on the season and more importantly 10-5 in conference play which ties them with the Aggies for second in the league behind Baylor.

"It is an important one because they are ranked in the top 20 in the country and because they are the defending national champs," said OU head coach Sherri Coale. "But it's most important because we are tied for second. We are tied for second in the league and we still control our own destiny."

The Sooners had a productive night from the field shooting 48 percent from the floor in the first to go with 42.9 percent from three point range.

Whitney Hand helped lead the strong Sooner start by going 4-of-7 from the field for nine points in the opening half of play. During the first half, Hand became the 26th Sooner to reach 1,000 in her career.

OU limited the Aggies to just 30 percent from the field in the first but they excelled on the offensive boards grabbing 14 to the Sooners five.

Another big factor was that the Sooners were able to limit A&M's transition offense—on the night the Aggies had zero fast break points on the night.

The first half saw 10 lead changes, and OU's Ellenberg went 5-of-8 from the field and had 13 points to help the Sooners lead 33-30 at the half.

Oklahoma used the break to regroup and came out to score the first six points of the second half.

The Sooners grabbed eight more offensive rebounds in the second to help combat their more than seven minutes without a field goal.

During the scoring drought, OU went 0-for-10 from the field which allowed Texas A&M to close the gap to within three points with just over 8:30 remaining.

Finally, Joanna McFarland hit a jumper at the 8:11 mark to break the scoring silence and increase the Sooners lead to 49-44.

OU freshman Kaylon Williams hit a shot-clock beating jumper with just over two minutes to play to put the Sooners up by eight.

In the final four minutes of play, Hook hit six free throws a jumper to seal the victory over the Aggies who missed six straight shots in the final minutes of the game.

Ellenberg led all scorers with 23 points and six rebounds, Hand finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

A&M was led by Sydney Carter who tallied 12 points while Tyra White added 11. A&M (19-7, 10-5) shot just 28.6 percent from the floor.

Oklahoma finished on 42 percent shooting from the floor and 38.5 percent from behind the arc.

The Sooners return to action Saturday on the road against Texas, tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
