TULSA, Oklahoma – With Tulsa pitcher Nick Schmidt and his support crew going to work on Sunday, the Drillers' bats didn't even have to work too hard.

As a result, Tulsa topped the Corpus Christi Hooks 2-1 on Sunday to take the first game of their three-game series.

The Drillers scored one run in their first inning of the game and one in their final inning, but it was the work in between from the pitching staff that got the job done.

Nick Schmidt gave up just one run in six innings of play, along with five hits and three strikeouts. Three other Tulsa pitchers threw an inning each, and gave up a combined three hits and no runs.

Will Harris picked up the win in his inning of relief to move to 1-0 this year.

Josh Rutledge gave the Drillers their first run of the day and a 1-0 lead in the initial inning thanks to a throwing error from catcher Chris Wallace trying to pick off a steal.

In the fourth inning, Corpus Christi's Jake Goebbert responded with a solo home run, his second of the season, to tie the game at one.

But Tulsa waited until late in the game to finally separate itself, responding with a homer of its own.

Nolan Arenado recorded the solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, his first of the season, to give the Drillers their final 2-1 margin.

Tulsa improved to 7-3 and will continue its series against the Hooks at 12:35 p.m. on Monday.
