Trial Delayed For OSU Basketball Player Charged With Rape

The jury trial for OSU basketball player Darrell Williams has been delayed until July.

The trial of an Oklahoma State basketball player accused rape and sexual battery has been delayed until July.

Darrell Williams, who was supposed to go to trial Monday, will not go to court until July 2.

According to the Associated Press, Judge Philip C. Corley, at the request of the defense, postponed the trial because a defense attorney's elderly mother fell ill.

Judge Corley made the announcement of continuance while talking to a pool of more than 120 prospective jurors. Assistant District Attorney Jill Tontz says prosecutors were ready to start the trial but understand the need for the delay.

Two women allege the 22-year-old Williams groped them against their will at an off-campus party in December 2010.

Williams was charged with four counts of rape by instrumentation and one count of sexual battery on February 7, 2011. Subsequently. OSU head coach Travis Ford suspended Williams indefinitely.

Williams has pleaded not guilty.

Prior to his suspension, Williams averaged 7.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Cowboys.
