Some of Oklahoma's Own are lending a helping hand, to ensure that children in need don't go hungry this summer.
About 120 volunteers from the United Methodist Church Conference on Wednesday took time out of their day to help the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma package food as part of a "hands-on mission project."
Volunteers like Jimmie Willis say it's something they're called to do.
"Throughout the conference we talk about serving others, and that's what we're called to do as God's people, and to serve and to come out here and serve others is a real blessing," Willis said.
The community food bank is in the process of opening a new center.
It hopes to open a branch in McAlester sometime in July.
