City Of Tulsa Explores Small Business Economic Development

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

The City of Tulsa's big plan for economic development -- is focusing on small business.

Thursday, the Entrepreneurship Committee laid out the first set of recommendations for a city-wide plan.

The committee came up with steps the city can take to invest in the creation and growth of local business.

The idea is to focus on Tulsa's strengths in the energy, manufacturing and the arts and think smaller.

"Almost 90 percent of incorporated 500 companies are started by non-experienced entrepreneurs, non-tech-based and start with less than $10,000," committee member Sean Griffin said. "So that's where we're putting a lot of our focus. This is the sweet spot."

More planning meetings are scheduled for next month.

Other task forces are also coming up with plans to improve public safety, develop the river corridor and a transportation plan.
