Four children are in protective custody after police found them living in what they say were "horrible" living conditions.

Police say the family's southwest Oklahoma City home had filthy floors with dried food, drinks and what appeared to be dried urine and feces.

The police report also stated officers found piles of dirty clothes and unwashed dishes scattered around the home. There was no refrigerator and the only food in the home was an opened package of hot dogs floating inside a cooler filled with water.

Officers say two of the children were found asleep inside the home wearing dirty shirts and no diapers. Officers also noticed they both had diaper rashes.

The other two children who were older, were not home at the time officers arrived. One was with a family member and the other was at a friend's house. However, all children were taken to a shelter. Their mother could face charges pending the outcome of the investigation.
